Every - 2nd Thursday
American Business Women's Association meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at Paesano's Italian Restaurant in Seneca.  Networking between 11:30-12:00 with meeting beginning at noon.  Contact helen.westmoreland@hrblock.com or Kellie Patterson at kpatton@mountainviewmedical.com for more information.

November 1
The City of Seneca presents “Flying Dog Fun at Gignilliat Field”, November 1, 2008, 11 am until 4 pm.  A day of fun for your favorite canine!  Featuring the Local 2008 Hyperflite Skyhoundz Canine Disc Championship at 1 pm.  Everyone is invited to bring their disc-catching dog out and play!  Registration will be at 12:30 and the event is free for competitors and spectators!
 Lots of Other Dog Fun, too!  Oconee County Humane Society, Oconee County Sheriff k-9 Unit, local rescue groups and dog related vendors will be on hand!  Seneca Animal Hospital will be having a Micro-chip and Vaccination Clinic on site!
“Howl-O-Ween” Pet Costume Contest  Dress your pooch & enter our pet costume contest at 11:30 am!

The SC Native Plant Society will collect native plant seeds in the Greenwood - Abbeville area on Saturday, Nov 1.  To participate, please register at least one week in advance. Email catboyz@nctv.com or phone 864-979-8034.  A detailed schedule is posted at www.scnps.org.

Collect native plant seeds with the SC Native Plant Society along roadsides in the Long Cane District of Sumter National Forest in Abbeville, McCormick, Edgefield and Saluda Counties on Sunday, Nov 2.  Please register at least one week in advance at catboyz@nctv.com or 864-979-8034.  See www.scnps.org for a detailed schedule.

Heritage Art and Music Festival
 
The World of Energy will host the annual Heritage Art and Music Festival featuring local art and entertainment. Special events for all ages are planned throughout the weekend. Check out key events and times. The art will be on display during the entire month of November. Sponsored by the Blue Ridge Arts Council, Duke Energy, Oconee Heritage Center, Pickens County Museum and Westminster Chamber of Commerce. The Newcomer Club of the Foothills welcomes Ms. Fran McGuire, the Director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management [PTRM] at Clemson University, and Ms. Trenna Metts, the Director of Continuing Educations at Tri-County Community College.  Each will provide insights on the Continuing Education Opportunities from their respective universities.  The meeting will begin at 9:30 AM, with the program starting at 10:00 AM.  Please come early to enjoy coffee, cookies, and investigate the numerous club, cultural, and civic organizations for your membership and enjoyment.   The meeting will be at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 616 Quincy Road, Seneca.   For maps or further information do not hesitate to visit our website at: newcomerclub.com

November 6, 2008, Kickoff Event for "A Natural Choice", Oconee's Vision for 2028, 6 PM - 8:15 PM, Hamilton Career Center, 100 Vocational Drive, Seneca, SCRSVP to Alice M. Wald at 638-9123 or waldam@aol.com      This event is for individuals and organizations passionate about Oconee's natural beauty and resouces.  We will begin with a simple meal and follow it with a work session.  We are seeking Vision Partner commitments and identifying actions already being done as well as those we have only dreamed about .  In short, we are adding to and beginning new initiatives to make the nine goals in the Natural Choices  component of Oconee's Vision for 2028 a reality.

The Seneca Woman's Club is hosting a wine tasting and raffle fundraiser. Wines are poured by Palmetto Spirits. Hors d'oeuvres are prepared by Seneca Woman's Club Members. Tickets available at Palmetto Spirits and Circa 1930 or call 886-0299. Donation is $25 per person.

Business After Hours with the Clemson/Seneca Chamber of Commerce at Thraves Jewelers in Seneca is scheduled for Thursday November 13th at 5:30pm. Good cheer and good food will be provided. Look for giveaways, drawings, and a $100 gift certificate to the lucky winners. Girls and guys can fill out their “wish lists” to be on record for later gift giving. Seneca Chamber of Commerce Breakfast, Fred P. Hamilton Career Center, Seneca, $7, 864.882.2097.  The speaker for this event is Dr. Bruce Yandle.  Dr. Yandle is the author or co-author of numerous books, including Taking the Environment Seriously, The Political Limits of Environmental Regulation, Environmental Use and the Market, Land Rights, The Economics of Environmental Quality, and most recently, Common Sense and Common Law for the Environment. Articles inlude, "Bootleggers, Baptists and Global Wamirng." 

"From 1976 to 1978, Dr. Yandle was a senior economist on the staff of the President's Council on Wage and Price Stability, where he reviewed and analyzed newly proposed regulations. From 1982 to 1984, he was executive director of the Federal Trade Commission. Before entering a career in university teaching, Dr. Yandle was in the industrial machinery business in Georgia for fifteen years. Dr. Yandle received his Ph.D. and M.B.A. from Georgia State University and his A.B. degree from Mercer University.

The November meeting of the SC Native Plant Society will feature Greg Lucas of the SC Department of Natural Resources, whose topic will be "Jocassee Gorges - A Conservation Partnership."  Lucas will highlight the Jim Timmerman Natural Resources Area at Jocassee Gorges, a 33,000-acre tract in Pickens and Oconee Counties managed by the SC Department of Natural Resources.  Management and recreational activities will be featured, along with some of the area's unusual plants and plant communities.  The meeting is Tuesday, Nov 18, 7:00 pm, Founders Hall, Southern Wesleyan University, Central. The public is invited.  For more information visit www.scnps.org or call 864-242-5400.

AN OLD SOUTH WINTER ENCAMPMENT:  “THANKSGIVING WITH THE GENERALS,  Lunney Museum,    W South 1st Street Seneca.  At “Lee’s Headquarters” meet Generals Jackson, Lee and Longstreet plus their staff, through first person impressionists.  At the “Camp” meet an infantry unity who will demonstrate daily life and drills.  At the “Artillery Headquarters” see demonstrations of artillery unit operations.Saturday Evening (6-10PM) there will be candlelight tours of the encampment through various stations and skits.  There will also be “period vendors” with appropriate food and wares.  Sponsored by OCMA, Inc. operators of the “The Lunney Museum”, Contact: The Lunney Museum for more information.   (864-882-4811)
